I used it clamped to a shelf.Don't.The stress on the molded plasic prong that keeps it in the holder is too great, and it will break if you use the lamp pulled forward and down.I know.I've broken two.While I have not used it as a table model, I see no reason why it would not break there as well given the same circumstances.They should use two prongs or a metal assemply.
