Mother Daughter Floor Lamp Review

I ordered this lamp from Amazon to replace a table lamp broken by Mrs. Spudman and received it in less than a week. Normande Lighting is located in Washington State, and on one of the glass shades I found the inevitable "Made in China" label though the parent company of Normande is located in Taiwan.
The photo on the Amazon page does the lamp justice and depicts it well. The metal base and stem pieces are finished in a dark brown color. The decorative "cup" at the top of the stem and just below the glass shade is a lighter, almost bronze color.

Assembly was quite easy as the pieces fit together smoothly. This Normande lamp is heavy and stands straight on its base, not a given with floor lamps. On the base are lots of cord notches so that cord placement is easy and convenient.
We are pleased with the looks of this lamp and its construction and wouldn't hesitate to repeat the purchase. The glass lamp shades, especially the larger one, are beautifully etched and look especially elegant when the lamp is turned on.
By sheer chance, the glass shade matches perfectly the remainingtable lamp not broken yet by Mrs. Spudman.

I only have two minor quibbles. The socket rings that hold the glass lamp shades in place are made of plastic. They work fine, but I would have preferred metal rings. Directions state to use a 40W type B bulb (graphic shows a thin elongated bulb) for the reading lamp. That maximum requirement is easy to bypass by using a fluorescent bulb like I have done. The fifty watt equivalent director's light bulb is more than adequate for reading.

In the three-way socket I've put a fluorescent bulb also. Fluorescent bulbs tend to be longer because of their base size resulting in the very tip of the bulb projecting above the edge of the lamp shade. It's barely noticeable, and even the Mrs. Spudman doesn't mind. With the free shipping from Amazon, this lamp is a good deal, and I'd certainly recommend it.

Based on my two minor quibbles above, I was going to rate this lamp four stars. After a family "vote" I've decided to award this lamp five stars.
