Kenroy Home #30685PN Mt Vernon Swing Arm Floor LampWe were a bit concerned about the 20" shade arriving unscathed, but this product is so well packaged, there was no damage to anything.The lamp comes with its various parts separated, but "connected" by the electric cord, which is completely installed.All you do is screw the parts together by hand in the only sequence possible (since the cord is there), install the shade harp, then the shade.Simple and only takes a few minutes.
The shade is black on the outside with silver-colored cloth on the inside to increase light output.Not much light penetrates through the shade to the sides, but with 100w to 150w incandescent bulb (or equivalent compact fluorescent), it makes a fine reading lamp. It has a 3-way switch so you can use incandescent bulbs like a 30-70-100 or 50-100-150, but any single wattage bulb with a standard screw base will work (except it will take an extra click to turn it on).The bottom of the shade is 48" off the floor, which is the right height for reading if you're sitting on a couch or chair.
The base of the lamp is heavier than any of our other floor lamps.It's so heavy, there is no chance of it tipping with the lamp swung to the side.Except for the UL-listed bulb-holder/switch, the lamp appears to be constructed of heavy polished nickle-plated steel.It's quite attractive, and the swing-out mechanism is strong and well engineered.
