Basic Polished Steel Finish Engineer Halogen Torchiere Floor Lamp Review

I've loved halogen torchieres ever since they appeared in the 1980s.When I started at my current company in 2006, I asked for one in my office, to avoid the headaches I get after an hour or two of the 60/120 cycle flicker of fluorescent lamps.This model is the one I got.Now, almost everyone on the floor has one, and the fluorescents get little use.

This 180w unit does not have the high maximum brightness of the old 300w and 500w units available in the 1980s and 1990s.However, it's fine in my office, where I'm working at an LCD display.In fact, I usually have it turned down half way, using the smooth, full range dimming switch.

Eventually LCD lamps will probably provide flicker free light that's even more efficient than fluorescents.Until then, though, this halogen lamp is a good, inexpensive solution for general purpose room lighting.
